Complete RFQ: RFQ Parking Garage Mural 2020 12.10.19

LINK to submit application materials as instructed.

In 2015, the City of Sparks began one of the largest redevelopment projects in its history in downtown Victorian Square.  Planned for completion by 2022, a six-square-block area of downtown Sparks called Victorian square will be transformed into housing (apartments and condos) for 5,000 new residents, new restaurants and retail spaces, an event venue, a central plaza and gathering space. New buildings around the existing parking garage has made the building invisible to general public.

This project aims to make the accessibility inside the garage easier to find and allow pedestrians inside the garage to find their way into the local businesses and outside plaza.

  • Assist with pedestrian traffic flow inside the garage
  • Celebration of NEW Victorian Square with reverence to our history

20,000 USD–to cover all artist fees, design, testing, fabrication and installation, including but not limited to travel, public meeting presentations, administration, taxes, materials, and insurance relating to the development of the artwork. $5,000 to be paid on contract, $5,000 to be paid on at one half of project completion, and $10,000 to be paid at completion (see timeline below.)

This call is open to professional artists or team of professional artists. All artists/artist teams must:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Reside within the State of Nevada or within 150 miles to Sparks, NV

An artist selection panel of Arts and Culture Advisory Committee and Parks and Recreation Commission will choose the artist. This solicitation does not imply an obligation on the part of the city of Sparks to enter into a contract. If no viable artist is identified, a new Request for Qualifications may be released until the criteria is satisfied.

The artist will be selected based on the following criteria, as evidenced in application materials and conversations with listed references:

  • artistic merit in concept and fabrication;
  • experience incorporating artwork into the architectural elements;
  • demonstrated ability to collaborate in the early phases of a project with design teams and community stakeholders; and
