Sparks City Council Approves FY 2019/20 Budget

Sparks, NV – The Sparks City Council unanimously approved the city of Sparks’ final budget for fiscal year 2019-2020. Passage came at the Sparks City Council meeting Tuesday, May 28.

“As we see revenues increase following the great recession, we are excited that for the first time in many years we are able to add new and much needed positions into the City’s compliment of 500 employees,” said Sparks City Manager Neil Krutz.

The City plans to hire 33 new positions spread throughout the Police, Fire, Community Services, Finance, Management Services, Municipal Court and Parks and Recreation Departments.

Twelve positions will be for the Sparks Police Department, including six police officers, two dispatchers and four office support staff. The City will also hire three new firefighters and one fire prevention inspector for the Sparks Fire Department. “We are proud that our Sparks residents will see a greater level of service with these new positions,” Krutz said.

The Truckee River clean-up will also continue to be a top priority.  “Council approved a team of five, two police officers and three community services employees, to help keep the river an inviting place for the community to enjoy.”

Krutz said two areas of primary focus for the City have always been public safety and fiscal security. “This approved budget reflects both of these important strategic goals.”
