Shirle Eiting Appointed as Sparks Municipal Court Judge

Sparks, NV – Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson has appointed Shirle T. Eiting as Sparks Municipal Court Judge, Department 1.

During Monday’s council meeting, Sparks City Councilmembers unanimously confirmed her appointment to the position left vacant by Judge Barbara McCarthy, who retired earlier this month.

Judge Eiting previously worked for the City of Sparks as Chief Assistant City Attorney, and most recently as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Reno.

“I want to thank Mayor Ed Lawson and the Sparks City Council for their support and appointing me to the position of Sparks Municipal Court Judge,” Judge Eiting said. “I’ve had the incredible privilege of working with the City of Sparks in the past as Chief Assistant City Attorney and look forward to serving again.”

Sparks Municipal Court has two judges who are elected to office for six-year terms. The court is responsible for the adjudication of traffic and criminal misdemeanor violations, code violations that occur within the limits of the City of Sparks and supervised rehabilitation for those needing treatment.

“I care deeply about the city and the citizens of Sparks. My family has lived in Sparks for 32 years and I am excited, honored, and humbled to be part of the Sparks Municipal Court,” Judge Eiting said.

“Judge Eiting is a great choice,” Mayor Lawson said. “She has intimate insight into the City of Sparks, has a proven track record as a great lawyer and will do well as a Municipal Court Judge. I want to thank all who applied. We had some great candidates.”

Jim Spoo, Sparks Municipal Court Judge, Department 2, administered the oath of office to Judge Eiting on January 10, 2022.
