Sparks Parks and Recreation to Offer Authentic Shaolin Kung Fu Training Class Beginning July 7
For Immediate Release
Sparks, NV – Everyone age 7 and older can take part in an authentic Shaolin Kung Fu training class scheduled to be held on Friday evenings at the Larry D. Johnson Community Center in Sparks. The first eight-week session will take place July 7 – August 25, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This training, provided by NV Shaolin Arts Kung Fu, includes fundamentals and core curriculum practice with an introduction to Shaolin staff and principles of Zen Buddhism. The cost per session is $132 ($66/month) or $110 ($55/month) for residents of Sparks, or $10 for a one-time trial class.
Shaolin Quan is one of the oldest, largest, and most famous styles of Chinese martial arts. It was created approximately 1500 years ago to help with meditation and for protection against marauders. With a rich and conflicted history, many kung fu styles can trace their origins back to the Shaolin Temple at the foot of the Song Mountain in Henan Province, China.
NV Shaolin Arts Kung Fu, although rooted in traditional Shaolin style, has adopted principles and techniques from other martial systems. This allows for a well-rounded, more efficient, contemporary curriculum for kung fu practitioners seeking more than just combative arts. The first hour of each class will focus on the fundamentals followed by an hour of core curriculum training.
For serious practitioners, training classes will be on-going with additional eight-week sessions beginning September 1 and November 3.
To register for the Shaolin Kung Fu training class, call (775) 353-2376 or go online to www.cityofsparks.us. Scholarship assistance is available for youth who reside in the City of Sparks and cannot otherwise participate in recreation programs due to financial limitations.
The Larry D. Johnson Community Center is located at 1200 12th Street in Sparks.
