Mayor Ron Smith Issues Statement Regarding First Covid-19 Related Death in Washoe County

Sparks, NV – Mayor Ron Smith has issued a statement regarding the first Covid-19 (novel coronavirus) related death in Washoe County.

I am deeply saddened to learn of our first COVID-19 related death in Washoe County. My heartfelt sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.

Please, we all need to take this pandemic seriously. I am urging you to follow all recommendations from our Governor, the CDC and the Washoe County Health District. If you can work from home, please do so. Be mindful of social distancing. Do not gather in groups. Wash your hands frequently. And, if you are able, please help those in need any way you can.

My thoughts and prayers are also with the two law enforcement members in our community that have tested positive with Covid-19. Everyone here at the City of Sparks wishes them both a swift recovery.

I want to give my genuine appreciation to all of our valued first responders, law enforcement, doctors, nurses and all who are on the front lines of this pandemic. You are our heros!

Our community is strong. Let’s do our part to slow the spread of this disease and #StayHomeForNevada.
