La Posada Drive in Sparks Reopens, Widening Project Complete

Sparks, NV -Q&D Construction has reopened La Posada Drive in Sparks several days early after completing a widening and reconstruction project from Cordoba Drive to Rockwell Blvd. The road reopened Saturday, June 30 at 3:00 pm.

The La Posada Roundabout and Widening Project included widening the road, installing a roundabout at the Omni Drive/La Posada Intersection and a walking path to connect Rockwell Blvd to Cordoba Blvd.

City of Sparks Infrastructure Coordinator Bob Schricker said Q&D Construction managed the project professionally and put in endless hours to complete the project ahead of schedule. “At one time, Q&D had 11 pieces of equipment on La Posada and placed over 8,000 tons of hot mix asphalt in just four days. “They not only stepped up to finish the project early but built a quality project with attention to detail in every step,” Schricker said.

Working six 12-hour shifts, six days a week, the team was able to remove the roadway, place medium curb, construct a roundabout, place new pavement and reopen the roadway to traffic in just 17 days.

Additionally, Q&D was instrumental in temporarily reopening the under-construction section of La Posada when a water main break closed Vista Blvd on June 15. “The team worked diligently to allow drivers access to the closed section of La Posada to help alleviate some of the traffic backups on Vista,” Schricker said.

“The city of Sparks worked alongside us to help us complete this project. It is a pleasure and a privilege to work with such dedicated people who share a common goal,” said, Q&D General Superintendent Rob Bagley. “We also very much appreciate the cooperation with Washoe County for allowing us to detour traffic around the project.”

The project, to prepare for the new Stonebrook Subdivision, also included landscaping the roundabout and new streetlights on the reconstructed section of La Posada.
