Grant Accountability Champion, Carol A. Kraus, CPA to Keynote Nevada’s First Silver State Grant Conference
Reno, NV— The State of Nevada Grant Office and the Northern Nevada Grant Workgroup have combined forces to organize the first-of-its kind statewide Silver State Grant Conference, January 10-11, 2019. All grant writing professionals in the public and private sector are encouraged to attend to hear leading edge discussions from nationally renowned experts, learn techniques to improve grant writing skills, build networks with grant writing professionals across the state, and earn continuing professional education (CPE).
The conference will proudly host Carol A. Kraus, CPA, as keynote speaker, to share lessons learned about ways to develop efficiencies using a collaborative approach. Kraus currently serves as director of the Illinois Grant Accountability and Transparency Unit. Kraus will be speaking on the collaboration and process required to transform Illinois’ federal grant lifecycle management, which has resulted in Illinois saving hundreds of millions of dollars in centralization and automation.
The U.S. Comptroller General and the Federal Office of Management and Budget are
encouraging other states to follow Illinois’ lead with grants management. Gabrielle Enfield, chair of the Northern Nevada Grant Workgroup, was tasked with finding an inspiring conference keynote speaker. “Carol’s passion for creating efficiencies is compelling,” said Enfield. “Nevadans, and especially grant professionals, know intrinsically the importance of collaboration and that a rising tide raises all ships. I believe Carol’s message will be right on point, and exactly what we need to help take grants in Nevada to the next level.”
Since the inception of the Nevada Grant Office in 2011, grant training has continuously been reported as a barrier to securing more federal grant funding in Nevada. “This conference will help dissolve that barrier and build capacity throughout Nevada,” said Connie Lucido, chief of the Nevada Grant Office. “Carol Kraus is an inspiration and a fantastic addition to the program. We’re thrilled with the level of support from grant professionals and community partners to help make this conference happen.”
More than 40 seasoned grant professionals will be sharing their knowledge through workshops and presentations on topics such as developing effective logic models for continuous program improvement and how to prevent common single audit findings. For $100, grant professionals can earn 8.5 CPE credits for the one-day grant conference and hear Kraus deliver her keynote address. The pre-conference event on Jan. 10 features a federal funding forecast and offers an additional 4.8 CPE credits for a $50 registration fee. The Silver State Grant Conference is currently accepting registrations now through Nov. 30.

About the Silver State Grant Conference
The Silver State Grant Conference is a statewide event organized by the Nevada Grant Office and the Northern Nevada Grant Workgroup. The conference aims to bring together statewide grant professionals for affordable, targeted professional development to increase Nevada’s capacity for grant awards and compliance. Approximately 200 grant professionals, advocates, and providers from all over Nevada and contiguous areas of Utah and California are expected to attend. In 2020, the conference will be held in Las Vegas and rotate annually between northern and southern Nevada.
About Carol Kraus
Carol Kraus currently serves as director of the Illinois Grant Accountability and Transparency Unit. Previously Kraus served as chief financial officer for the Illinois Department of Human Services and co-chaired the Management Improvement Initiative Committee which was responsible for streamlining the administration of awards and grants for the state’s five human service agencies. This initiative was very successful and ultimately led to the passage of landmark legislation to implement statewide grant reforms with the passage of the Grant Accountability and Transparency Act. Kraus is a licensed CPA with an extensive career in public accounting beginning in 1992 and has since served in many capacities of state government.
