City of Sparks issues statements about passing of Judge Steven Elliott
Sparks, NV – Mayor Ed Lawson, the Sparks City Council and city of Sparks employees were saddened to hear of the passing of the Honorable Steven Elliott earlier today.
Judge Elliott began serving as a prosecutor for the City of Sparks in 1977 and was elected Sparks City Attorney in 1979. He held that office for 17 years.
“Judge Elliott was a great man, leader, friend and public servant,” said Mayor Ed Lawson. “He served our city well for many years. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.”
Current Sparks City Attorney Chet Adams said he fondly remembers and will greatly miss Judge Elliott.
“I began working for Sparks City Attorney Steve Elliott in 1991 when the City of Sparks was heavily involved in federal litigation and land use controversies,” Adams said. “Throughout these difficult times, Steve demonstrated that he was one of the most ethical, hardworking, and intelligent lawyers I have had the honor to work with. Steve’s intellect was surpassed only by his dry wit and sense of humor which kept our office balanced and engaged. Steve’s ascent to the bench was a natural progression for someone of his talents and abilities and enabled him to serve the citizens of Washoe County with the same dedication and dignity that he had bestowed upon the citizens of Sparks. Steve’s legacy as a dedicated and committed public lawyer and judge will continue to serve as the bedrock of the Sparks City Attorney’s Office.”
