City of Sparks Can the Mayor Challenge Huge Success

Sparks, NV–Last month, city of Sparks employees and residents were light-heartedly challenged to “can” Mayor Geno Martini by donating non-perishable food items for those in need during the holiday season. The food drive was a huge success with more than 1166 pounds of food collected—enough to feed 972 families in the community.

City Manager Steve Driscoll and his wife Carol kicked-off the food drive by donating 474 items of nonperishable food to represent each city of Sparks employee and challenged employees to bring in at least one food item. All food collected was donated to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

“I’m thrilled that our City Manager issued this fun challenge and that each and every employee stepped up to give to those in need this holiday season,” said Mayor Geno Martini.

Additionally, the City, in collaboration with the Hot August Nights Foundations, Scheels, Games Galore and Coca Cola collected more than 850 toys for the local Toys for Tots program.

“Sparks continues to be a city that gives back,” Martini said.
