Community Centers

Alf Sorensen Community Center – 1400 Baring Blvd. (775) 353-2385

The Alf Sorensen Community Center has served Sparks residents for more than 25 years. Generations of families have used the facility for swimming lessons, recreation and youth watch services. There are currently lifeguards monitoring the same pools they learned to swim in when they were children. Returning customers enjoy the familiar hometown feel and are pleased with the recent upgrades and what the center has to offer. Located on the east side of Reed High School, the facility offers a gym, indoor heated pool, tot pool, fitness center and meeting rooms. Larry D. Johnson Community Center – 1200 12th St. (775) 353-7780

The Larry D. Johnson Community Center opened its doors to the public in 2007. The center is named after fallen police officer Larry D. Johnson, who lost his life in the line of duty in 1995. Construction on phase one of the $4.5 million project began in June 2006. Two additional phases will be built when the funds become available. The facility features a modern design with plenty of natural light. It houses the Mt. Rose Fitness Center, a dance/aerobic room, two multi-purpose rooms, and The Club, a 1,900 square foot teen drop-in center. View hours, programming and rates.

Recreation Center – 98 Richards Way (775) 353-2376

The City Recreation Center houses the main Recreation Office. There is also a gym located on site which can serve as a banquet room and host a variety of community functions. The gym facility may be rented for group functions or picnics. View rental details here.
