Art Classes

As a commitment to our community, the City of Sparks provides opportunities to learn about and practice art for all ages and all abilities. There should be no deterrent to these classes, mostly the cost. Scholarships are available for low income, children, people with disabilities and seniors.

MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE FOR TEENS

This course will cover the basics and fundamentals of acting for musical theatre as well as vocal performance technique and theatre dance. Students will learn how to not just sing a song, but how to tell a story through song and dance. Using the Stanislavski Acting Method, students will be exploring how to create a character based on given circumstances. This fun class will allow students to learn about and perform songs from Broadway Musicals, Disney and other animated movies, and operettas. There will be a performance showcase at the end of the 2nd session for those who have participated in all three sessions.
WHO: Teens, 13 – 18 yrs.
WHEN: Wednesdays, 6/13-7/11 (no class 7/4)

DISNEY’S “THE LION KING KIDS” SUMMER THEATER CAMP

We are pleased to offer this exciting summer day camp to aspiring actors, singers, and dancers. Courtney Simson, Producing Artistic Director of Truckee Community Theater, is the instructor. All participants will get a speaking part with all of those memorable characters in this thrilling production — a forty-minute version adapted from the Broadway show. Two snacks provided daily, kids bring their own lunch.
WHO: Youth, entering 3rd – 7th grade
WHEN: Daily, June 24 – 30; Showcases on Sunday, July 1 and Thursday, July 5

SCHOLARSHIPS

Arts for All Nevada has provided quality art opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Visit www.artsforallnevada.org for class registrations. Please note that pre-registration is required for the following programs held at the Larry D. Johnson Community Center located at 1200 12th Street in Sparks. ALL AGES PAINT & SNACKS
Students will receive one-on-one guidance in creating their own 16” x 20” acrylic painting. Class size limited for more one-on-one instruction in a small social setting for all levels and ages. Suggested minimum age is 8 years old. All art supplies are included. Attend with family members or a friend. Bring your own beverages/snacks.
WHO: Everyone, 8 yrs. & Older
WHEN: Wednesday, June 20 and July 11
TIME: 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
