SPARKS SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER
Now co-operated by Washoe County and the City of Sparks Parks and Recreation Department! The facility located at 97 Richards Way, is open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are a fun variety of programs and activities offered throughout the year including oil painting, ceramics, rug making, bingo, bridge, pinochle, poker, a stretch-and-tone class, pool/billiards, a pulmonary exercises class, a senior walking group and more. SENIOR DAY TRIPS
Are you looking for new things to do? We have a fun day and evening trip for you! Bring your friends or meet new ones while taking part in these exciting road trips. Participants will be transported via two charter buses. To reserve a space, call Tanja at 353-7898. Once all of the spaces are filled, you will be contacted on when and where to pay for your trip. Cost is $40 per trip, which includes lunch. Special thanks to the E.L. Cord Foundation for providing funding to continue this program in 2011.

SENIOR SWIM PROGRAMS - View Seasonal Activity Guide

YOGA FOR SENIORS - If you are interested in a yoga class for seniors please call 353-7857 to be placed on an interest list. Yoga can help bring joy back into movement, health back into body and peace back into mind. Participants learn to listen to the inner wisdom and combine it with outer expression building strength, stamina, relaxation and increasing energy.

TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING FOR SENIORS
Improve balance and functional strength and increase flexibility in a fun, relaxed class environment. This class is for beginners who are uncertain of their strength and/or balance. Participants will be guided through multiple forms of safe resistance training by an experienced personal trainer. Daily activities will become effortless and fun again! SENIOR FARMER’S MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM
Through this annual program, low-income senior residents (60 years and older) can obtain free locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at the farmer’s markets held during the summer. Coupons are redeemable for unprocessed locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs sold by outdoor produce vendors certified for the program. In addition to supplementing the nutritional needs of low-income seniors, the program is designed to increase the consumption, production and distribution of locally grown produce. Booklets will be available beginning in June 2012. Booklets are limited to the first 75 low-income seniors 60 years and older.
