Sparks City Council Highlights, February 12, 2018

Sparks, NV- The following are highlights from today’s Sparks City Council Meeting:

Recognition:

City of Sparks employee Nicholas Connolly was presented a certificate of recognition for completing his GIS professional certification.

General Business:

Council accepted a $14,550 grant from the Neill J. Redfield Foundation to continue Leisure Without Limits programming for calendar year 2018. The city of Sparks Parks and Recreation Department plays a lead role in creating awareness and providing recreational programming for people with disabilities in the Truckee Meadows. Leisure Without Limits programs include weekly art classes, bowling, holiday dances and support of the annual Mark Wellman Adventure Day at the Sparks Marina.

Council agreed to renew a lease agreement between the city of Sparks and the Reno Rodeo Foundation and approved the merging and re-subdividing of three existing parcels at Legends at the Sparks Marina.

Council approved a Professional Service Contract with Economic and Planning Systems, Inc. in the amount of $71,240 for preparation of a fiscal impact analysis to evaluate land use proposals and an assessment of the City of Sparks’ land use plan. They also approved a $28,000 settlement offer.

Public Hearings:

Council heard a second reading and adopted an ordinance concerning conducting and holding the primary and general elections in the city of Sparks on June 12, 2018 and November 6, 2016, respectively. They also heard a second reading and approved a request from the Regional Transportation Commission to the City of Sparks to abandon of a portion of public right-of-way in support of the Pyramid Way and McCarran Boulevard Intersection Improvement Project.
