City of Sparks Announces Resurfacing Project on Sparks Boulevard

For Immediate Release
Contact: Julie Duewel, (775) 353-7894, jduewel@cityofsparks.us

Sparks, NV– Beginning Tuesday, September 5, drivers can expect delays on Sparks Boulevard between Baring Boulevard and Pyramid Highway as crews begin resurfacing and striping the roadway.

Contractor Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC) will slurry seal from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm daily through Saturday, September 9. Additionally, overnight striping of the roadway will take place from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am through September 14. A minimum of one travel lane will remain open in each direction at all times with flagger controls at the major intersections. To minimize traffic delays during peak commute hours, construction will not occur in the southbound lanes prior to 9:00 am or on the northbound lanes after 3:00 pm.

The project is part of the Regional Transportation Commission’s (RTC) Annual Pavement Preservation Project that includes corrective maintenance (asphalt concrete patching) of regional roads that require short-term maintenance measures to improve ride quality and durability until complete reconstruction can occur (approximately 3-5 years). This work is necessary because of the severe winter that has resulted in accelerated deterioration of those regional roads near the end of their life cycle. The roads to be included in the project are located throughout the City of Reno, City of Sparks and Washoe County. Construction begin in August and will continue through October 2017.
