Walk for Animals

Nevada Humane Society’s Walk for Animals is back and presented by Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota! Join us as we raise money and awareness for homeless pets through another exciting family-friendly, community event.

39 North Marketplace
Thursdays: Last event of the season: August 17 (off 8/10)

Victorian Square
A modern approach on a classic street fair, 39 North Marketplace unites local artisans and farmers alike. We showcase the best in art and crafts and highlight produce and specialty food from local farmers.

Northern Nevada International Dragon Boat Festival

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Dragon boating comes to Sparks! Fun for the entire family. The festival features all-day racing, local vendors, entertainment, and benefits Immunize Nevada. Free for spectators! Looking to participate? Join a team or form your own team, contact us today.

Mark Wellman’s Adventure Day Event for People with Disabilities
Sunday, August 20
Sparks Marina Park
10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Adaptive rock climbing, hand cycling and kayaking will be available at this free event for children and adults with disabilities.

Friday, August 25
Experience the museum, tour the train and Glendale Schoolhouse for free with docents on hand for tours. Includes a free movie scheduled in the amphitheater.
• Museum and Gallery: Visitors can see the latest art show upstairs in the Cultural Center and explore Sparks’ history downstairs with artifacts and displays.
• Historic Schoolhouse: The school marm is holding class from the past in the nationally registered historic Glendale Schoolhouse, newly restored for its 150th birthday.
• Train: The conductor leads a tour through the steam locomotive, a cupola caboose and a Pullman executive car.
• Local acoustic bands are set for the Great Basin Stage at 7:30 p.m. August’s featured performer is Bourgeios Gypsies.
To cap off the evening, a FREE family friendly movie will be shown in the outdoor amphitheater. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket and chair. This month’s movie is BUGS BUNNY SHORTS which begins at dusk, approximately 8:15 p.m.

Coming up: Mark your calendar for the Kids Triathlon on Sunday, September 10 at the Alf Sorensen Community Center.
