Parks & Recreation


The opportunity to participate in recreational, social and cultural outlets is critical to the quality of life in any community. The Sparks Parks and Recreation Department provides programming for all ages and abilities, including sports leagues/camps/competitions, aquatics, arts, dance, community classes, senior outings, kids out-of-school programs, activities for people with disabilities, special events and more. Services are offered at three community centers, two outdoor swimming venues, and two sports complexes. Recreational fun also awaits those who visit the more than 60 park sites in the City of Sparks.

Experience the museum, tour the train and Glendale Schoolhouse, and enjoy a free movie in the amphitheater. This monthly event offers these free activities and more for families!

Cool off at Summer Swim Venues

Everyone age 7 and older can take part in an authentic Shaolin Kung Fu training class scheduled to be held on Friday evenings at the Larry D. Johnson Community Center in Sparks. The first eight-week session will take place July 7 - August 25, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.


Summer Fun! Youth Sports programs for ages 3 to 18

Enjoy the fun of swimming outdoors at Deer Park pool and in the designated swim area at the Sparks Marina. It is great exercise and a wonderful way to cool off on a hot summer day.

Kids Triathlon - September 10

Summer is a time to play - and our youth sports programs provide the perfect outlet to burn some energy. Choose from tennis, soccer, golf, volleyball or a mini sports camp featuring four different sports. Don't miss the fun!


Yoga, Meditation, and Strengthening Classes Coming Up in September!

Kids ages 4 to 18 who can bike, swim and run are encouraged to sign up for the Summer 2017 Kids Triathlon. The triathlons are designed to introduce kids to the sport and are non-competitive. No times or places will be recorded.
