Sparks, Nevada – Tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite for the fifth year in a row on Friday, June 20 to set a new Guinness World Record™ for the largest simultaneous swim lesson ever conducted. Deer Park pool, located at 1700 Prater Way in Sparks, will be a host location for the 2014 global record attempt. The official start time for the 30-minute lesson at Deer Pool will be 8 a.m.

Team WLSL (World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™) holds the current Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson, which stands at 32,450 participants representing 13 different countries across five continents! The 2013 WLSL event generated more than 50 million media impressions, spreading the event’s important message to hundreds of thousands of families that Swimming Lessons Save Lives.

Tragically, drowning remains the leading cause of unintended injury related death for children ages 1-5, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under 14. Research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children aged 1 to 4, yet many kids do not receive formal swimming or water safety training.

Help break the world record for the largest simultaneous swim lesson. Register for the free event online at www.sparksrec.com or call Sparks Parks and Recreation at (775) 353-2385. Pre-registration is required as there is a limit of 60 spaces.
