Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation in cooperation with the City of Sparks, Washoe County and the City of Reno, will be leading interpretive hikes in area parks every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. this summer as part of the Discover Your Parks Series. Explore a new park and learn about the unique and varied natural and cultural history of each location. Plan on spending a little more than one hour on the walk. Distances range from .5 miles to 1.5 miles. The next hike will be at the Sparks Marina Park on June 12. The walks are free and open to everyone.

KIDS EMPOWERING KIDS - Children need skills, resources, strategies and protective factors so they may live according to the values set by school and community. We all want what’s best for our children. We want them to grow up with self-confidence, positive self-esteem and self-control that is required for excelling in school and everyday life. This program focuses on building social and emotional skills in children through an innovative and entertaining approach. Kids Empowering Kids helps students learn strategies to:

 • Express feelings

 • Learn empathy

 • Be happy and healthy

 • Gain skills to deal with difficult friends

DOG OBEDIENCE - Curb your dog’s bad habits and establish good conduct during this six–week class. Learn how to teach your pet to sit, stand, stay, heel and master other commands. Professional dog trainer, Guy Yeaman, has trained 30,000 dogs during his career and has plenty of knowledge to share. Call (775) 265-4530 for more information.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING - Become a certified lifeguard through our American Red Cross lifeguard training program. Candidates must pass a swim performance test prior to acceptance into the class. Students who complete the course will receive Lifeguard First Aid certificates valid for three years, and a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate valid for one year. The registration fee includes instruction, course materials and administration fee.

BABYSITTER’S TRAINING- Babysitting is no easy task. It requires knowledge, patience, and an understanding of the responsibilities that come with caring for children. To give teens and preteens a jump start on becoming confident caregivers, we offer a one-day training developed by the American Red Cross. The course is fun and fast paced with hands-on activities, exciting video, role playing, and lively discussions. You’ll learn to be the best babysitter on the block.

Discover Your Parks Weekly Evening Walks

Explore your parks with Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation

In cooperation with our parks partners, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading weekly interpretive hikes in a park near you. Every Thursday evening at 7:00 pm you can explore a new location and learn about the unique and varied ecology and history of parks in our area. Plan on spending one and a half hours on the walk. Distances range from .5 miles to 1.5 miles. Check out the website www.tmparksfoundation.org for more information. Explorations begin July 18th and continue every Thursday through the end of August. The walks are free and open to everyone.

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation (TMPF), based in Reno, Nevada, is an incorporated, nonprofit organization founded in 2012 by members of the community concerned about the economic impact on parks within the geographic area known as Truckee Meadows. Beginner through advanced levels of instruction are offered during this four–day volleyball camp for teen girls. Learn basic and advanced skills, effective offensive and defensive plays and more. A real must for students trying out for their school team.
